A Long-Tailed Duck Paddling in Icy Waters  –  the  Agdlek Class  Patrol Boats

The Danes describes the Agdlek class as  Inspektionskutteren  or cutters but these are naval boats. Frederikshavn is homeport but the three Agdleks  were  intended  for service in Greenlandic waters [1] – Davis Strait is  where  they spend their time.  Y386 Agdlek and Y387 Agpa both entered service in 1974 –  Y388 Tulugaq followed in 1979.

[ Update: On 23 April 2008, all four of the Agdlek class patrol boats were auctioned
  off. The Agdleks are being replaced by much larger Knud Rasmussen class OPVs.]

Four Thetis class patrol vessels entered Danish service in the early '90s: F357 Thetis (1991), F358 Triton, F359 Vædderen (1992), and  F360 Hvid- bjørnen (1994).  Like the Adgleks, homeport for Thetis class ships is Frederikshavn. The Thetis class were designed for Greenland but sometimes also patrol the Faroes.

Length:    122.5m Range: 15370 km (8300 nm)
Beam:    14.40m Powerplant: 3 x MAN B&W diesels

Complement:   65  +  11  [1] Machinery: single propeller + bow
Main armament:  1 x 76mm/62 SR   and azimuth thrusters
Add’l armament:  2 x 20mm M/42 [2] (also fitted) 2 x depth charge racks
Shipyard: Svendborg Skibsværft A/S   (Svendborg, Funen, Denmark)
[1] KDM marines can be carried aboard Thetis class ships. Civilian researchers are    also taken aboard both the Thetis and Adglek class if suitable space is available.
[2]  Like the Agdleks,  the Thetis can also mount two 12.7mm M/01s machineguns.    As a Standard Flex 3000 design,  main armament is containerized as are the two    hydraulic cranes. A further two container positions (for armament) are possible.
