– the Agdlek Class Patrol Boats
The Danes describes the Agdlek class as Inspektionskutteren or cutters but these are
naval boats. Frederikshavn is homeport but the three Agdleks were intended for service
in Greenlandic waters [1] – Davis Strait is where they spend their time. Y386
Agdlek and Y387 Agpa both entered service in 1974 – Y388 Tulugaq followed in
1979.
[ Update: On 23 April 2008, all four of the Agdlek class
patrol boats were auctioned off. The Agdleks are being replaced by much larger Knud Rasmussen class OPVs.]

Four Thetis class patrol vessels entered Danish service in the early '90s: F357 Thetis (1991), F358
Triton, F359 Vædderen (1992), and F360 Hvid- bjørnen (1994). Like
the Adgleks, homeport for Thetis class ships is Frederikshavn. The Thetis class
were designed for Greenland but sometimes also patrol the Faroes.

[1] KDM marines can be carried aboard Thetis class ships. Civilian researchers are also
taken aboard both the Thetis and Adglek class if suitable space is available.
[2] Like the Agdleks, the Thetis can also mount two 12.7mm M/01s machineguns. As a Standard Flex 3000 design, main
armament is containerized as are the two hydraulic cranes. A further two container
positions (for armament) are possible. |
