MERX ACAN Notice
In November 2007, PW&GSC closed bids on an ACAN for support equipment for the CF's Boeing C-17s,
the 4 CC-177 Globemaster IIIs. The ACAN was awarded to Dartmouth-based Atlantic Aero Marine (AAM), sole
Canadian distributor for British AMS aircraft recovery equipment – used in the event
of CC-177 landing gear failure or rolling off runways.
Specific equipment involved in this ACAN are additional aircraft recovery airbags (of 12-tonne

Canadian Forces Strategic Airlift — MERX C-17 ACAN
Notice
In early July 2006, the Canadian government issued an ACAN announcing its intention
to place orders with Boeing for four C-17 Globe- master III transport aircraft. Although a "Nat- ional
Security Exception" was invoked, this ACAN took pains to exclude trade and other
agreements. The purpose of the ACAN was to allow potential competitors to challenge a Boeing order and.
thereby, avoid any allegations of government "single-sourcing".

Canadian Forces Medium- to Heavy-Lift Helicopter
ACAN
In July of 2006, the Canadian government issued an ACAN announcing its intention to place orders for
sixteen Boeing CH-47F+ Chinook transport helicopters. As with the C-17 ACAN, a
National Security Exception was invoked, taking pains to exclude trade and various other
agreements. The purpose of the ACAN was to allow potential competitors to challenge the Boeing order
and , thereby , avoid allegations that the government was "single-sourcing" CF
equipment.
